Jon is a musician, artist and filmmaker hiding in the hills of Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles. When not tending to his addiction of succulent gardening, he is the composer and principal member of the band Old War Shirt. He enjoys writing songs and the art of recording sound. He also likes to paint pretty pictures from time to time and has had several solo exhibits of them over the years. Before moving to Los Angeles, He served as assistant and curator to iconic feminist artist Judy Chicago in New Mexico. Aside from his own band, He was a member of the Hootenanny All-Stars with performance artist M.S. Garvey and is a member of The Niche Makers with world renowned artist Raymond Pettibon. In February of 2009 he curated the exhibition and performances R O C K P A P E R S C I S S O R at the Robert Berman Gallery in Santa Monica, CA featuring iconic figures of the music and art world which included Raymond Pettibon, Sonic Youth, Ron English, Daniel Johnston, Gibby Haynes with performances by Mike Watt and Shepard Fairey. He recently co-curated TOO FAST TO LIVE, TOO YOUNG TO DIE at Subliminal Projects in March of 2011 that featured iconic figures from the California Punk Scene including Raymond Pettibon, Edward Colver, Glen E. Friedman, Jenny Lens, Winston Smith, David Markey, Jordan Schwartz and Shepard Fairey. He is currently directing/producing a documentary based on the Rosebud and Pine Ridge Indian Reservations in South Dakota entitled Across the Creek.
When not working or creating in the arts,
Jon spends the majority of his daytime hours dreaming of buffalo burgers and horseback riding in the South Dakota hills, where he is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe.
